The last strains of sunlight lingered in the corners, grasping every available point of refraction. She slid her fingertips along the glass wondering if this was all there ever was. Or could be. Charles used to call her “My little fatalist.” At least during those whispered nights when he glorified her cynicism. But those were now fuzzy memories only tethered to a trick of the light.
