It takes more than a few days of wandering around with a camera to capture the essence of any place. Many people wander for years and it escapes them. I spent a good portion of my recent five days in New Orleans trying to capture on digital film at least a tiny glimpse of what makes this city such a unique American treasure (aside from the usual suspects of food and music which are certainly substantial factors). Here is some of what I found brought to you in the vibrant colors of The Big Easy.

She's not real, but then again much of the city gave off an unreal vibe.

Like many of the exterior walls buttressing the sidewalks, this one on a bar/restaurant in the Faubourg Marigny district was impossible to ignore.

While most cities have shops with window displays, New Orleans has shops with Window Displays.

Away from the tourist infested center of the city some folks like to spend a few hours paddling in one of the cities many waters.

I saw these when you first posted, but apparently I was remiss in commenting and stamping my stamp on the ‘like’ button. I like them very much, just so we’re clear. Especially the mannequin in the top shot.

Nice photos … but, the next time you take a shot of me on a park bench, please make sure I “OK” the photo before you put it on your blog.

  4. Great pictures! But inquiring minds (or maybe just my mind) want to know if you were there on August 17th for the Bonerama at Jumpin’ Johnnys ’cause that sounds like all sorts of fun!
