Why?

Hiya. I’m John. After months of twiddling I decided to start this blog on June 5, 2011. I note the exact date because, you know, people in the future will want as much specific information about this as possible. For the history books. Or the history e-readers. Or the history knowledge chips which will be implanted in the brain at birth. Or the ultra-magnetic protoplasmic scan machines which will think for us. You know, I can’t predict what I’ll be having for dinner tonight. How can I be expected to predict the future?

Indecision played a big role in my twiddling. I wanted to plan out the blog, figure what this damn thing was going to focus upon before putting fingers to keyboard. I see blogs about every conceivable subject out there in the blogosphere. Even some inconceivable subjects. Should I concentrate upon one topic I find interesting like writing or photography or music or baseball or film? Should it be a potpourri? (Anything but patchouli, thank you very much.) Should I take a confessional slant? Should I be all stealthy fiction-like and make a bunch of stuff up about my life? Should the tone be gently pathetic with a touch of melancholy or boldly abrupt with a heaping side of sarcasm? It finally got to the point where I realized I didn’t know what it would morph into until I actually did it. (See above: How can I be expected to predict the future?) So this is me doing it. In a manner of speaking.

I welcome comments and feedback. So slap back and let me know what you think – as long as it’s good stuff that won’t send me into a depressive tailspin. I know, that’s a lot of pressure on you. I don’t understand why you expect me to do all the work.

Thanks for visiting. You’re really quite terrific. To quote the great Rick Blaine: “Louie, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.” (Pss’t, you’re Louie.)

I started my blog trying to stick with one area, but I realized I have too many dang thoughts in my head to just stick with one subject, so I decided it would be best to just say what I’m thinking. You should do that too! Then we shall see all the different aspects of you that make you You. By the way, thanks for adding me to your writer’s list! XOXO
