A Christmas Song

Chest thumps spreading just like wildfire
An imaginary war grows
Yule-tide ornaments hang from every wire
But the outraged see only foes

Everybody knows that it’s Christmastime
Why even spark a pointless fight
Still some folks claim a baseless crime
And let their poor hearts fill with spite

They say that Santa’s been sent astray
They insist on Merry Christmas, not Happy Holiday
But underneath the anger and righteous cry
The season’s true meaning has passed them by

So please extend an olive branch
To the Buddhists, Muslims, and the Jews
Christmas spills from every street to every ranch
With a message of peace for you

Splendid, John. It’s nice to know the true spirit of the holiday still resonates for a handful of souls. Hope your Christmas was filled with love and joy.
