It’s a sleepy evening, so let’s keep it simple. Here are a few photos from a trip we took to New Mexico this past May. I’m going to post and run. See you dreamland!

El Santuario de Chimayo is enveloped in legend and folklore. As a result, many refer to it as Lourdes of America. Approximately 300,000 folks pilgrimage to it every year for various reasons. Whatever your beliefs, there is no denying this lovely church rests in a magnificent natural setting. (Chimayo, NM)

This outdoor chapel rests behind El Santuario de Chimayo. The beautiful backdrop makes it an ideal spot for reflection. (Chimayo, NM)

This is somewhere in northern New Mexico on the road between Santa Fe and Taos. Probably the most amazing thing was these views were everywhere. We just happened to stop here to take a few photos.

Old Santa Fe was filled with shops hawking everything from fine art to kitsch. Given the beauty of the area I was surprised by the amount of cheesy stuff for sale, but it is America. These plastic fruits and veggies on a rope are certainly colorful eye-catchers, but ultimately they are just plastic fruit and veggies on a rope.

  1. I love this post. Yes, oh yes, Santa Fe has kitsch! 🙂 I live here, so I can say that (and so you can you). 🙂

  2. […] Avenue – My favorite things about “John’s” blog are his photographs – truly amazing!  But I also like his wicked sense of humor – such as in “To Do […]

  3. Have never been to New Mexico, but plan on visiting. Your pics are another reason to go!

  4. Great photographs! When I was a teenager we visited Santa Fe and ventured out to Chimayo. We had dinner at a place called Rancho de Chimayo. I remember the food was very good, but the best part was the “dining room” was an outdoor terrace with kerosene lamps on the tables and hundreds of stars overhead. Your pictures reminded me of that lovely place.

  8. Those pictures are fabulous! Much more attractive than the ones on my blog…
