Invoking petty technicalities has always been an integral weapon in the political arsenal. These shifty maneuverings, while not illegal, highlight one of the major problems in our government. Delaying decisions, reversing policy or doing any of the self-serving bullshit many of our elected officials do by invoking (more…)

There’s no better time to incur debt than during a prolonged recession. Over the past six months or so the lovely Ms. Trask and I have contemplated upgrading the kitchen. Actually, so much in the house demands attention that it’s almost impossible to know where to start. But every home improvement guru I hear and every home improvement article I read preach from the same gospel. When it comes to selling your home the biggest (more…)

It’s fascinating how complicated crying really is. You see tears filling someone’s eyes or streaming down their face and your natural conclusion is they are sad or upset. Being compassionate you want to do the right thing. You console or give them whatever privacy they need. But your assumption about (more…)

Being from New Jersey, and of a certain age, it’s practically a moral imperative to like Bruce Springsteen. I imagine it’s similar with Prince in Minnesota or Reba McIntyre in Oklahoma or Pink Lady in Japan. (That sharp, blinding pain shooting behind your left eye is the Pink Lady memory rush I just laid on you.) I think in Springsteen’s case (more…)

Over on Flickr I belong to a group called The Common Threads Project. The project identified 78 universal human behaviors and traits which “bridge the divides of gender, race, creed, culture and class.” Group members are encouraged to post photographs illustrating these traits and tagging them as appropriate. It’s a nifty idea which embodies our commonalities in an effective and occasionally powerful way.

Like an escaped POW I make my way through no man’s land, explosions (more…)

The unseen are immersed in scurrilous activities. They are working hard on propagating their ongoing and ultimate conspiracy: the conspiracy which makes us think everything else is a conspiracy. But they can’t fool me. I know their game; I sense their charade. Their sleight of hand is (more…)

I'm looking at you

Meet Boomer. Boomer is a freak of nature, a furry ball of chromosome confusion. He missed a step on the evolutionary ladder or, if you prefer, (more…)

“You know how it is when you go to be the subject of a psychology experiment, and nobody else shows up, and you think maybe that’s part of the experiment? I’m like that all the time.” – Steven Wright

I have taken the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator test several times over the course of my working life. This test is designed to identify how you perceive the world and, as a result, function within it through psychological preferences. Ideally it will help you understand (more…)

The holiday season fades away. We’re speeding headfirst into January and the heart of winter. As such I can now reveal the sad and deplorable truth: Our Christmas tree is a shambles, a droopy mess, a meager and utter disgrace to the mighty tradition of Christmas trees worldwide. If our Christmas tree were a movie it would be Glitter without the glitter, Deuce Bigelow: European Gigolo without the incisive social commentary, Little Fockers without (more…)
