All buzz centers on “the cloud.” You no longer need to download songs or movies or books to your gizmo of choice. You no longer need to worry about computer storage for your photos and personal files. Those productivity applications you use, you don’t need to run them from your PC. Everything can be forever accessed, run and stored in and from “the cloud.”

I’m sure this is a gross oversimplification, but my understanding of “the cloud” is all your data – from movies to songs to Word files to photos to Read the rest of this entry »

I don’t know what you’ve heard about the circumstances surrounding my birth, but if it’s anything like what I’ve heard, we need to talk. Well, I’ll talk and you listen. Actually, I’ll write, you read. Most of what has been published, presented and preached as the ‘gospel’ truth regarding my life is, well, let’s just say it ain’t something those four dudes in the New Testament might consider worthy of their gospels. Then again, who really knows if the stories they wrote about the cuspy days of B.C.E./A.D. are anywhere near the truth? Who even knows if Read the rest of this entry »

I’m sitting here enjoying the menthol goodness of a Halls Honey and Lemon Cough Drop. Its magic must be working because even the New Jersey air feels refreshing. Mind you, I don’t have a stuffy nose, cold or cough. I’ve previously mentioned somewhere my peculiar fondness for these delightful little OTC candies. Because that’s what they are to me. Candy. Some folks Read the rest of this entry »

About a month ago a new irregular segment was introduced where I give snap reviews of ten totally random movies. The rules are simple. Reviews can only consist of one sentence not exceeding 20 words. The rating system is the widely used 4 star one, with ½ star increments. After posting I’ll add each new entry on the “Shorts” page listed above. Not much more to say other than here are today’s selections.

Airport ’77 (1977) – Disaster film in more ways than one with lots of old movie stars trying to chew non-existent scenery. (1½)

Cedar Rapids (2011) – Quiet slice of life movie about Read the rest of this entry »

We breathe life into buildings so they can serve us. They rise among a flurry of spellbinding expectations, speculations of glory. Their unveilings are accompanied with excessive self-congratulatory celebration by their creators. Speeches are given, ribbons cut. For a brief, glorious period new buildings are treated reverently and tenderly, like a baby. We “oooo” and “ahhh”, say all the right things, and fawn with appreciation. Yet the tides Read the rest of this entry »

I began this blogging adventure in June, but didn’t really get into the swing of it until late August. When I come across blogs which have been cooking for years and years and years consisting of hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of posts…well, I’m slack-jawed. To be fair I Read the rest of this entry »

When I was a kid my family would occasionally splurge and spend a few days and nights in Asbury Park, once a thriving New Jersey beach resort. Nowadays Asbury Park is best known as the town where Bruce Springsteen earned his musical chops. In reality he played ferociously up and down the Jersey shore in those days, but thanks in large part to Read the rest of this entry »

Here we are. The year is quickly winding down and I still haven‘t done 90%* of my holiday shopping. I should hop on that soon, don’t you think? But there’s more to consider other than enforced spending. Britney Spears turning 30. Herman Cain bowing out of the presidential race. My cold hands. I’m telling you, it’s difficult to focus on one thing. When you add that 2012 is less than a month away…well, systems start Read the rest of this entry »

man in the mirror

2011

Since I joined Flickr in 2006 I’ve taken a self-portrait shot standing in front of a mirror every December 2. There’s no significance to the date or mirror. It’s not anything I planned. It’s just happened and has now become a moral imperative. So this morning once I was dressed (but still barely awake) I grabbed the trusty Nikon, found a suitable mirror, and performed my obligation.

Happy December 2 everyone!

Note: This was written in 2003 and certain references may no longer be accurate. For one, I know the senior management team at McDonald’s has changed over the past eight years. So McDonald’s, if you’re cruising blogs as corporations have been know to do and miraculously stumble upon this bit of light-hearted observation, don’t get all litigious on me. I understand Read the rest of this entry »
