Rocky Hill is a small borough in central New Jersey, part of the larger Montgomery Township. It is primarily residential. A few scattered businesses, a couple of eateries, a church, post office and fire house also call it home. There is really not much cause to make Rocky Hill your destination, save the restaurants. This is a small shame since the town, though modest, is quite (more…)

For several decades Caryn’s grandparents owned a chicken farm. They stopped raising chickens further back than Caryn’s memories take her and sold the property about 30 years ago when they retired. I have heard stories about the farm, but never had a chance to see it. So on a glorious Saturday afternoon we impulsively (more…)

Poor planning combined with ungodly Friday evening traffic, that’s what it was. After a light supper-type meal at a diner to the north, the lovely Ms. Trask and I headed back south. We blasted past the homestead, cruising straight into Princeton which is as fine a place as any to wander in these parts. Especially on a temperate May evening. Especially in search of (more…)

Several years ago Johnson and Johnson, the enormous multi-national manufacturer, closed a facility located in central New Jersey along the northbound side of Route 1 and sold the 200+ acres to the local township. The township dithered for a long time before finally agreeing upon a plan to construct a new town center on this acreage. Now how you can suddenly create a new town center in a 230 year old township is baffling. Especially when the township is (more…)

Being from New Jersey can be downright challenging. The constant barbs and insults are enough to make one think spending three hours a day at the gym, an hour in a tanning bed and another hour sculpting your hair is, perhaps, not the best use of one’s time. Pretty ridiculous, right? Yet it seems as if people everywhere are putting Jersey down, making fun of this cute little profile-shaped state. Let’s face it. Something is amiss when Alabama (more…)

Did you watch The Sopranos? Admittedly, it was a rough show. It is easy to understand why some folks were turned off by the amount of deathly violence. Seems like if you make a movie or television show about organized crime, it must be peppered with people dying in a variety inglorious and bloody ways. Sometimes it appeared as if (more…)

Back in April the lovely Ms. Trask, Red, the sister unit and her brood, and I spent a few hours at the New Jersey Folk Festival. While I do enjoy listening to local bands cut their teeth my secret pleasure is this event provides me with a terrific opportunity to photograph people I don’t know. I like to think you can surmise a lot about a person when you catch them in (more…)

Cape May is famous for its historic, gingerbread houses. Originally private homes, many have been converted to Bed & Breakfast inns. You can’t help but feel as if you’ve stumbled into a fairy tale when you stroll around. It really is something special. Here’s a small taste of what the town has to offer. (more…)

I’ve tagged along with the lovely Ms. Trask to the southernmost southern part of New Jersey while she attends a conference. We’re camped in the pretty town of Cape May which has the distinction of being designated a National Historic Landmark. Not just a few of the cool buildings, of which there are plenty. The entire freakin’ town. So while she is (more…)
